Your first appointment is a chance to understand your symptoms, review your medical history, and decide what evaluation or treatment may be helpful.

Before your visit

If possible, bring:

  • A list of your current medications and supplements
  • Details of previous nose or sinus surgery
  • Previous CT or MRI images and reports, if available
  • Relevant allergy testing or previous treatment records
  • A list of treatments you have already tried and whether they helped

You do not need to stop your usual nasal medications unless you have been specifically asked to do so.

What happens during the appointment?

01

Consultation and physical examination

A detailed discussion of your symptoms, medical history, previous treatments, and any previous surgery, followed by an examination of the nose and related areas. The evaluation may include a nasal endoscopy if needed.

02

Review of previous scans or tests

If you have previous CT or MRI scans, these may be reviewed during the appointment. Additional testing is only requested when it is likely to help clarify the diagnosis or guide treatment.

03

Diagnosis and treatment plan

After the assessment, we will discuss the likely cause of your symptoms and the available treatment options. This may include medication, further testing, monitoring, or surgery depending on the problem.

After the appointment

You should leave with a clearer understanding of the likely diagnosis, whether any additional testing is needed, and the next steps in your treatment plan.

Do I need a scan before the appointment?

Usually not.

Many nose and sinus problems can be assessed initially through your symptoms and examination. If imaging is needed, the appropriate scan can be arranged after the visit.

If you already have a recent CT or MRI, bring the images and report with you if possible.
